Deepfish. The new mobile web browser from microsoft

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments Friday, March 30, 2007 - ,

The Microsoft's answer to Google and Yahoo is in the form of Deepfish which is a newly launched web browser for mobiles. Deepfish displays content "in a familiar desktop format that requires no additional work by the content or site author," according to the company.The officials quoted it as a "lightweight client application that leverages server-side technology to deliver content."

Users are able to zoom in on the part of the page they want to read or click on.

Microsoft says Deepfish stands apart from other mobile browsers because it does not use a single-column format that reformats existing Web pages by repositioning content to fit the limited screen size.

Web page zooming technology is becoming an important feature with the latest mobile devices. Apple's(Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone has a similar system for its Safari mobile browser. The Microsoft-backed firm ZenZui has also developed mobile software.

Microsoft seems keenly interested in making the Web browsing experience on mobile devices more intuitive for users. Deepfish appears similar to work of the latest company to be funded by Microsoft's IP venture, ZenZui.(which will be available later this year)

Snap your website

Ashwini Khare - 1 comments Thursday, March 29, 2007 -

* 700,000+ new website sign-ups worldwide

* 6MM+ site previews in a single day

* 200MM+ site previews in the first three months

* Top-tier blog coverage (including TechCrunch, Battelle Searchblog and Wired Monkeybites)

* Adoption by WordPress.com

Some of the milestones achieved by the Snap Anywhere Preview tool
Snap preview tool was launched in November 2006 and has now covered over a billion of websites. Snap preview tool is a tool which gives the visitors of website readymade snapshots of the links in the website when a person hovers over it. These previews come with an inbuilt search engine powered by Snap search. To build your own, you can customize the previews according to the “mood” of your website by customizing its size [small and large] and background color. You can also put a watermark of your website to the previews.

Sometimes people find these snapshots a bit too annoying, so snap it has a solution for it too. You can add an optional preview link such that visitors who want, only get the previews.

Recently, I have also added snap preview tool in my website and if you are really annoyed with it, leave back a comment. You can build and add your snap tool from here or simply copy paste this into the head section of your blog/website.

Mobile ad network launched by Yahoo

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - ,

Online giant Yahoo is the latest company to branch out to mobile advertising. With the launch of the Yahoo! Mobile Publisher Services, the company is reaching out to online advertisers, publishers and content producers in a big way.

The suite of services will allow online publishers, content providers and advertisers the ability to serve ads and other content to mobile consumers.
First, the mobile ad network. It will give mobile publishers the ability to serve syndicated ads through phones. Marketers can select specific ad formats - display, sponsored links, mobile video and in-game ad placements - for the ads. The first ads are expected to go live in Q2.
The suite also has a content engine that allows publishers to submit a catalog of content (classified listings, articles, etc) that will be made available to users on mobile devices. Tied to that is a media directory for ringtones, games, mobi-video and other applications that can be made available for users.
Finally, the suite of services allows marketers to submit the mobile site for indexing so that users can find them through Yahoo! oneSearch. Yahoo began pushing the oneSearch offering, which gives sponsored listings to mobile search inquiries, in January.
Mobile advertising is expected to make huge gains over the next few years, growing to $2.9 billion by 2011.

Something For Webmasters

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments - ,

One of my friend ,Shiva, keeps on asking me about some tips that he requires to drive a much “heavier” traffic to his blog. These tips may also be useful for a newbie in the world of blogging

How to choose site’s url and title ?
Well you need to be careful while doing this. Some complaints have also come that Google Adsense is suspending the websites/blogs that have the term “google” in their URL. Today, there are millions of blogs on blogger, so you won’t get any common name like myblog.blogspot or technology.blogspot . Lets take an example that you need a blog on technology news, here is how to choose it. We will cut short technology into tech. Now we have the first part. Another key thing about search engines is that they take “-“(hyphen) as a space between words. So I tried to test it. I started two blogs ashwinikhare.blogpsot.com and ashwini-khare.blogpsot.com. I submitted both to google. After a few days when I searched for “Ashwini Khare” in Google, I saw ashwini-khare.blogpsot.com at the second position but I couldn’t find the other blog .Then I did another search , this time “ashwinikhare” then ashwinikhare.blogpsot.com was there. Hence the above statement verified. So let your blog be tech-digest, tech-space or any other which you like. Also make a quick search on Google with the search term as your blogs “title”. If you find a similar website/blog with a page rank of 4 or 5, change your Title immediately. I also recommend that you choose a short and easy URL to remember.

Have a control over your links
Links are perhaps the most important aspect of your website. If you are having a link exchange with any other site, you must have a visit to linkhonesty.com where these problems are sorted out. With this you can assure that the person, who is exchanging link and traffic with you is loyal. Some people like Shiva are too impatient about getting traffic and getting indexed by Google and other leading search Engines. To get assured placement in Google you should visit Google Wemaster Central and Submit your site’s Sitemap. The quickest way to get in Google is to have an inbound link from any website that has already been indexed by Google. This statement is quite common in every Search Engine Optimization list. But each webmaster thinks how to have an inbound link? Here is a simple solution. Write your site’s Description , Keywords in a notepad file. Make a banner of size 468 x 80 and upload it on any free image hoster and save the link in your notepad file. Now visit some Blog Directories ( look in left sidebar) and submit your website. Some of them would also want a back-link to their directory from your website. Although you won’t be assigned a Page Rank for that but your blog would be indexed quickly.

Megaglobe. The future Google?

Ashwini Khare - 2 comments - ,

I went on a survey over the internet to find about a new search engine titled 'Megaglobe'. Now lets see what the officials speak

All over the world, people are logging on to the Internet, and they need a search engine that will cater to their specific needs, in the language they are most comfortable with,” says Danial Moore, CFO of Megaglobe. “Megaglobe is that search engine, and it will end Google’s time at the summit.
Now lets have a deeper analysis on the features that are going to be provided by Megaglobe
  • Megaglobe would be providing searches in 45 languages. Good for international users
  • Megaglobe will have its own advertising networks. They are now using a new term " Pay Per Valid Click" for protecting Advertisers from Click Frauds
  • Good news for Advertisers, Magaglobe will take a comparatively less amount to display an advertiser's advertisement on search result page
  • Publishers of Meglobe Ad network will higher percentages of click through profits than that of any other
  • A new Magaglobe Page Rank would also be their for giving their site visitors best results for their searches, trawling through more than a billion indexed pages to give users exactly what they require.
Big promises are being made by the officials of Megaglobe even though it hasn't been launched yet.At this time, Megaglobe Search isn't functioning and is accepting new websites/blogs to get into their indexes.Click here to add your site.For more information on Megaglobe Advertising Networks , you can contact Megaglobe team at press@megaglobe.com

Display a list of all posts in Blogs

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments Tuesday, March 27, 2007 - ,

One of my visitor Hitesh Kulkarni sent a letter to me.
Here is the letter

Hi

I always wanted a list in my blog of the titles of all my post. Recently, I saw one in your blog. Can you please reveal, how do you do that? Is it that you just type in the links or you have done some of the coding work .Also I wanted to know that you are using old or the new blogger? Will the list function work in all blogging platforms?

Sincerely
Hitesh

Hello Hitesh, you forgot to mention your blog’s URL. This blog is using the new blogger XML template. To type in the links for blog posts was a very lengthy process, also it needed to be updated every time you post.But the method I use is very simple and works within seconds.Which ever blogging platform you are using, this method should work. All you require is a feed of your blog. Blogger has an inbuilt feed option for you. Your RSS feed URL should be http://www.yourblog.blogspot.com/rss.xml .Now you need to convert this into a simple javascript coding. You can get one converted here. Fill in all the details you want.

After you had that converted, Go to Dashboard > Layout > Page Elements > Add a Page Element > HTML / Javascript. Paste the javascript code you obtained in it. Click on save . Now give your blog a look . It worked !

This method can also be used for displaying recent posts list after posts or in the sidebar.
For this, you have to change the number of post titles to be displayed.
To add a recent posts list after each post , you need to parse the Javascript code. It can be done here. Then paste the parsed javascript in your XML template in this line “post footer line 2” paste it there and see the results.

Note:: This will only give recent posts and not the previous posts.

Adsense between blogger posts

Ashwini Khare - 12 comments Monday, March 26, 2007 -

Since new blogger {Blogger Beta} does not support any kind of adsense ad, this method is useful for those who want to paste adsense inside /anywhere/between post title and post body.This 100 compiles with the Adsense TOS and policies no code altering has been done in this.You need to paste adsense javascript in new blogger {blogger beta} XML template
This is perhaps the most easy way:-). All what you have to do is to parse your code.You will have to replace < with and so on. If you want to save your time , An online parser is available . All you have to do is to parse it there and then paste it into your blog template.You can place any where into your XML template , where you want them.I'm sure no more XML errors would occur.If you are unable to do the desired work, feel free to comment.
This method was said ok by the Adsense team in case of New blogger.

Here is the letter

Hi,

You are permitted to make minor edits in Blogger Beta. However, please keep in mind that in general publishers are not allowed to alter the AdSense ad code for any reason. Once you've generated the ad code in your AdSense account pages, you may not alter any portion of the code or manually change the layout of the ads.

Thanks for your understanding.
Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team"

It means that you cannot alter the code for changing Ad format ,colors or logo's but you can use the above method for Blogger XML.

There are basically 4 methods to put adsense between the new blogger posts.

Option 1--------------------Option 2 ------------Option 3

Option 4

For all of them to be implemented, you need to parse your code.

Option 1 is good for image ads .I would choose a 250 x 250 square for it.
<div style=”float:left;”>Parsed ad here</div>

Option 2 is also good for image ads .I would choose a 250 x 250 square for it.As both of them support video ads
<div style=”float:right;”>Parsed ad here</div>

Option 3 works well with banners or half banners
<center><div>Parsed ad here</div></center>

Option 4 looks well in each format. I prefer a square for it.
This time, you will have to place it where the blog post end and the post footer start
<center><div>Parsed ad here</div></center>

For more assistance, here is the code which I have used.

<div class='post-header-line-1'/>
<div class='post-body'>
<p><div>&lt;center><script type=&quot;text/javascript&quot;><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-XXXXXXXXXXXX";
google_ad_width = 234;
google_ad_height = 60;
google_ad_format = "234x60_as&quot;;
google_ad_type = "text_image";
google_ad_channel = "2066577887";
google_color_border = "FFFFFF";
google_color_bg = "FFFFFF";
google_color_link = "333333";
google_color_text = "000000";
google_color_url = "6C82B5";
//-->
</script&gt;
<script type=&quot;text/javascript&quot;
src=&quot;http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js&quot;>
</script&gt;</center></div><data:post.body/></p>
<div style='clear: both;'/> <!-- clear for photos floats -->
</div>

Google Checkout. A new adsense refferal

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments Saturday, March 24, 2007 -

Checkout gives your users a faster, safer, and more convenient way to shop online. OK, that sounds great for them, but what do you get out of it? Well, every time you refer a user to Google Checkout, you make a little money. It's a simple process that includes all of three steps:

1. You place the Checkout referral button on your site.
2. Someone clicks on the button, signs up as a buyer with Google Checkout using a valid U.S. credit card, and completes a purchase of at least $10 before shipping and tax through Checkout within 90 days. (The current $10 minimum purchase corresponds to our existing $10 promotion for new buyers, so this amount may change in the future.)
3. You earn $1.

It's that simple. Please note that Checkout referrals are currently only available for U.S. publishers, and Google Checkout is currently only available for buyers with a U.S. credit card. We hope to make both Checkout and Checkout Referrals available in more countries soon.

If you're not convinced, why not try it out yourself? It costs nothing to sign up (actually, you'll even get a $10 bonus) and it'll make shopping online a little easier. And remember, if you're still figuring out how to improve the performance of your referrals, take a peek at our optimization tips for referrals.

You can get started with Checkout referral ads by visiting the AdSense Setup tab in your account. We think your users will thank you for showing them Google Checkout, and your wallet will like having some extra money for you to spend at all of those great Google Checkout stores.

Well don't be surprised if you don't see the checkout refferal missing
The causes can be that you are not an US Adsense publisher or Google has some missing required information

Google mobile.Are you ready?

Ashwini Khare - 1 comments Thursday, March 22, 2007 -

Google is developing its own mobile phone, according to industry insiders, while a Google official in Spain last week acknowledged that the company is “investigating” in such a project. Google isn’t commenting directly on leaks from Europe and US which describe Google Phone as a low cost, Internet connected phone with a color, wide-screen design. Newspapers and blog reports in recent months have Google shopping its phone design to potential mobile phone manufacturing partners in Asia. “Mobile is an important area for Google,” Google spokesmen Erin Fors said. “We remain focused on creating applications and establishing and growing partnerships with industry leaders to develop innovative services for users worldwide. However, we have nothing further to announce”

New Google Adsense Refferals in beta

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments Tuesday, March 20, 2007 - ,

Many of us already use Adsense referrals to direct users to your favorite Google products. Now, with new referrals beta, you can select products and services from our base of AdWords advertisers. This is good news for those of you who have wanted to use referrals in the past, but couldn't find a product to match your site's content. With the referrals beta, we can search for products that match up directly with your site's content. And you can customize your referral units to match the look and feel of your site, making it easier than ever to find a referral ad that fits in seamlessly with your site's design and content.

What's more, Google can help make sure you find and display the most relevant, best-performing referral ads on your site. Simply provide a few keywords to describe your site and your users' interests, and you'll see ads automatically displayed that perform best for your site. No more constant updating, rotating products, or guesswork.

As with current Google referrals, we'll generate earnings when your visitors click through to an advertiser's site and complete an action defined by your advertisers, such as a sale or sign-up. Because these actions are often more involved than a simple click or impression, advertisers pay more for these referrals, which can translate into higher earnings for your site.

While we plan to open this up to all publishers in the near future, this update is currently only available on a limited basis as part of our beta test. If you are interested in being one of beta testers, please visit the referrals beta site and sign up.

Password Phishing

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments -

What is phishing ?

Hackers are day and night trying to intrude into your (mail) account. So if you are already hacked by a person, you are said to be ‘phished’. No one would want that their accounts are handled by someone else.

How can we prevent phishing?

Leading web mail service providers are trying very hard to reduce phishing of their accounts. Certain mitigation measures can reduce the risk of your account from been hacked

* Don’t reply to any mails that ask for your password. Immediately spam that message

* Don’t visit any hacking site or it will hack you only!

* Incase you use a Google Account for many services, such as Gmail , Orkut , change your password regularly. I also recommend that you keep different passwords for all your accounts.

* If you are invited by anyone to Gmail , change your secondary Email immediately if the person who has invited you is not trust worthy. Your secondary Email has the power to change your password.

* For extra security, I recommend you to use Yahoo Mail services as at this point the hackers target is Gmail and other Google accounts

Are you being copied?

Ashwini Khare - 1 comments Wednesday, March 14, 2007 -

After several complaints from my visitors, I decided to write an article to resolve this problem. First of all, go to http://copyscape.com/ , and then enter your URL. If you found a web-page having absolutely same article like of yours, note the website’s URL .Please not note the feed address of your URL only! Now we have come to know that the webmaster of that site is a cheat. Now visit the website, look for the about us/contact us section. Get the e-mail address of the webmaster, and send him a mail regarding your problem. You can ask him to remove your article or place a link to the original article of your website. If the webmaster refuses or doesn’t reply then you will have to work harder. If you can find the web portal at which the website is being hosted then its great! Next step should be to draft a mail to the webmaster of the web-portal regarding your complaint. You can use the date of your article as an evidence .If still nothing happens ,then draft a mail to Google & other popular search engines regarding the complaint. I hope it will resolve the issue up to some extent. Google robots then may not index the violators webpage.

Prevention:
Prevention is always better than cure. Now some websites like http://creativecommons.com/ are offering licenses to websites. If your website doesn’t have any , build one right now! I have also created one for my blog, see bottom of page. These web licenses help a lot in such situations. On Creative Commons you can create a license for you website in such a way that you can make legal content available for the ones who want your content on their websites. In such situations, they copier will have to place a link to your original content too. {As it is a one of the rule}.You may also want to protect your website from fraud by copyscape anti –website pilagrism warning banners {although they are for show only!}

Do you have an icon for your website?

Ashwini Khare - 0 comments Monday, March 12, 2007 - , ,

Have you ever noticed an icon next to the url of websites?

Do you too want one? Here is the guide.

First of all you need a icon generator. If you don’t have one don’t be upset, as there is an alternative too. If you have Paint, Photoshop or any other photo editing software, then open it. Make a new image with resolution of a square {eg.50x50}.Then, to make a perfect icon, type the first letter of your website URL. For e.g. Google icon has G. Then you can make some cool effects like a drop shadow etc. [with Photoshop]. Remember your letters should be covering whole of the canvas so that the icon is clearly visible. Now that you have made an image [can be any jpg , gif bmp].Paste a simple coding into the head section of your website’s homepage source or that of templates.

Icon.jpg should be changed into the local path of your icon image. I recommend that you use an *.ico extension for IE supports it well.If you don’t have a icon generator, use paint to save as an icon {You have to save as icon.ico}.Done!!

But if you are using blogger[like me],MySpace,or any other blogging service provider that do not support uploading, you’ll have to use free web space providers like Google pages. Upload your file there. Then give your long source in the source provided above. Some of them like blogger already have an default icon but can be changed by putting the above source.

If you can’t create one , you can also search for them in Web Search Engines like Google

If you are a blogger , you can have the following 3d icon (like mine){right click and save the picture}
